Eico 2080 Service Manual
Posted : adminOn 4/2/2018I actually have a 2080 from a few years ago, but found this one last week locally. Looks like someone already recapped most of the major ones. The problem I have is, whoever did the work just threw in 47uf 450V capacitors everywhere. I plan to replace most of them with correct values even though the current ones will probably work okay, call me picky I guess.

These 2080's are supposed to be a better version of the Eico ST-70, so far nobody I know of has found a 2080 schematic. The ST-70 schematic is supposed to be the same, but I find two 16uf capacitors in the 2080 that are not showing up in the ST-70 parts list. I guess it's a good time to get them both finished and working correctly, then see how they sound.

I'm close to compete with a mod I did of an Eico 2080 amplifier (see before & after shots) Some highlights: • Tone controls removed • 6CG7. I added two items, including a shot of the totally enclosed infra red receiver / controller board, and a.pdf of the CF stage. BuzzK, Jun 19, 2011.
I studied the circuit in the right channel long enough to see a wrong connection on one of the small capacitors that connect to the 12ax7, I must of had a brain fart at some point I guess. So all fixed and sounding very good, it seems a bit more open and bright than my Fisher units. Glad to finally get this one up and running correctly, now on to the most recently acquired 2080. I just need to replace a couple of the 450V caps and install 500V units where required, and also replace the caps that are not the correct UF rating.
Screen stability resistors should round off the work needed, this last unit sports all original Eico tubes.
I'm close to compete with a mod I did of an Eico 2080 amplifier (see before & after shots) Some highlights: • Tone controls removed • 6CG7 cathode follower added before final to prevent loading down phono stage & to drive motorized potentiometer • Infrared receiver / circuit to provide remote volume control and muting • Front panel redesigned for simplicity, using standard rack front panel • Four inputs retained; tape input & output removed • Coupling caps and out-of-spec resistors replaced. Original cans are fine (but I may replace anyway) I'm helping a friend to do about the same with an ST-70. We may offer a kit of front and back panels...
